Everything you should know about New Delhi Mega Mock Drill

New Delhi is having a Mega Mock Drill today between 11:30 am to 12:00, it’s for half an hour only and Metro services will be affected during this drill. I had a lot of questions going on in my mind and so, i started looking for answers. Here they are, all my questions answered. What will happen in this mock drill?

For the mock drill, an earthquake situation will be enacted which will lead to Metro disruptions, traffic collisions, building collapses, fire incidents and CNG pumps leakage.

Who is conducting the drill?

(NDMA) National Disaster Management Authority

(DDMA) Delhi Disaster Management Authority.

Metro stations to be closed

AIIMS, Inderlok, Karkardooma, Tilak Nagar, Khan Market and Dwarka sector-10.

During the drill, entry to the metro stations will remain closed for half an hour (30 minutes).
Though services are being carried out at these 6 major metro stations, the whole 190 km metro network will be affected. So it is advised that you avoid travelling by metro during these times.
Normal train services will resume after completion of this exercise.

Is traffic going to be affected? 

Yes. This drill is being conducted at 400 locations in Delhi. All major Delhi roads, including the Ring Road will be affected.

Why is this being carried out?

DDMA and NDMA are conducting this drill to check city’s preparedness in dealing with disaster situations.

Who will be a part of it?

Various agencies including the fire brigade, Delhi Police and ambulance services will be a part of this drill.

Is something also going to happen at the Airport? 

A mock drill, enacting a Kingfisher plane on fire, will also be conducted at the Terminal 2 of the IGI airport.

Are they prepared to even carry this out?

Apparently, they are. In the first week of February, 100 mock drills were carried out in all districts of the city. Now this is the Mega mock drill.

Are they going to inform us?

Yes, The DDMA is sending bulk messages to three crore mobile subscriber in Delhi. Just pray you are one  of them.

What more you should know?

“The drill will help us prepare better in case of any disaster and will also make citizens aware about the dos and don’ts in case of any disaster, including terror attacks,” said Vijay Dev, secretary (revenue), DDMA.
